False alarm: Fire engines called to campus but there wasn’t a fire

A Computer Science lecture was evacuated as the firemen investigated the building but it is unknown why the alarms were going off.

A spokesman for the fire service said: “There was a call at 11.40am today to the Maintenance Building on the main campus reporting a smell of burning and alarms going off.

“The emergency call was made by someone with fire safety responsibilities.

“It was a false alarm but with good intentions.”
